WEEK 1 – “Energy in Action”
Senior Science Squad (Ages 10–12)
Take a deeper dive into STEM these school holidays! Explore different energy systems! Participants will build a simple steam engine, construct solar hot water systems, and test hydraulic energy in machines. Workshops focus on independence, problem-solving, and real-world engineering challenges.
Monday 22nd Sep – Science: Steam & Combustion
- Power on into an afternoon of energy science! Spend two hours exploring the science of combustion and steam engines. Students will compress steam to power a model, then build a simple working steam engine to see energy transfer in action.
Tuesday 23rd Sep – Technology: Solar Basics
-
Burn through the afternoon while building and testing a small solar hot water system, experimenting with angles, materials, and colours to see what creates the most efficient heating.
Wednesday 24th Sep – Engineering: Energy at Work in Machines
-
Work with hydraulic systems and compression models to simulate how fire trucks and heavy machines use energy. Explore how energy is transferred and controlled in emergency vehicles.
